FAQs

Songbook Volume 2 seems a little expensive compared to other published sheets and folios.  Why is that?

Songbook Volume 2 contains ALTO’S LAMENT, a song that references many alto lines in great American works of Musical Theatre.   Respecting copyright is an issue very near and dear to our hearts, so we properly cleared all the passages referenced and share the royalties with rights holders and their estates.   Buying our songbooks helps us defray these costs, and we thank you very much for your support.

What if I want an M&Z song that isn’t in the folios?  Can I email a sheet music/demo request to you?

We are doing our best via our website and published works, and online venues to get materials out to you.  At this time, we cannot customize collections beyond what is currently offered.

What if the sheet music in your songbooks is not in my appropriate key?  Do you provide transpositions?

We love great musical directors!  And we trust your musical directors to provide you with appropriate keys.

What if my friends request copies of the music?

We are always happy if you have friends who want our music, but we ask that they properly purchase it.  While the lost revenue may seem small, it adds up significantly to writers.   There’s a great group on Facebook which covers this topic, called “You Give Up Your Trade, or I’ll (have to) Give Up Mine”.  Check it out for more information.

Can I put a Goldrich & Heisler tune on the CD I’m recording?

If you would like to record a Goldrich and Heisler song, you must receive permission.  Please contact The Harry Fox Agency, Inc. to obtain a mechanical license. Requests can be made by calling 212-370-5530 or faxing 212-953-2384.

What if I would like to perform Taylor the Latte Boy in my school recital/cabaret/concert/local bar/live venue/opera house of choice?

If you perform one/more/a bunch of our songs live, please email  mzliveperformance@marcyandzina.com, and tell us all about it.  Writers receive money for tracked live performances from their licensing houses, so do let us know when you’re performing.

Help!  I need permissions right now to sing your songs in my high school competition!

We are so pleased when you use our songs, but we cannot be responsible for personally insuring you get the info you need re character background info, show synopsis, workshop timelines, etc. to make sure our songs are eligible in your competition.  We, will, however, try to update this website with as much information as we can to make your life easier.

I’d like to send you a demo of my work.   Will you listen to it?

We do try to listen to submitted demos, and appreciate that writers solicit our feedback.  Time often gets away from us, however, and we can’t respond as soon as we’d like.  We’re putting together some writing workshops that will allow us to give feedback and share music on a more collective basis.

Are there karaoke or instrumental only versions of your works?

At this time, there is a karaoke version of Talyor the Latte Boy available.  If there is enough customer demand, we’ll think about producing these items.

Is there a book of lyrics?

Marcy is currently working on one, and hopes to have it available next year.

Do you have any work you’ve composed separately available?

Check the website for separately composed works, such as ALPHABET CITY CYCLE, by Marcy Heisler and Georgia Stitt, currently available on Itunes and produced by PS Classics.

By the way, which one is Zina and which one is Marcy?

Marcy is curlyheaded and Zina is straight-haired.

Who does what?

Marcy does the lyrics and Zina does the music.
